Detailed Google Page Backlinking Explanation – Tutorials and Tips

With reference to the previous post What are google page rankings
I mentioned about backlinks.
To recall, backlinks are the amount of other webpages clicking to you. And different PR of the pages linking to you will give different link juices.
To increase your google page rankings, just have as many backlinks as possible back to your own site.
Well i did said that. However, the backlinks must have qualtiy! For links without quality, they carry even lesser link juice!
Quality? Non-Quality? Well i know i did not mention it in in the previous post as i did not want to overload you with information, so here it goes.
How do google define non-quality links?
- they came from link farms
- the page it was link are full of links
- non natural backlink
- it has a “nofollow tag”
- has all the same anchor text linking back
- they come from the same or similar IP address class range.
- they are from non-relevant sites.
Quality Links are just the opposite of the above.

Link farms and pages full of links,
Link farms are “farms” that are just used for backlinking. Imagine a page full of nothing but links, just purely to give backlinks to other website. that is a backlink farm. Imagine seeing such a page, do you think that it was ever important?
google and other search engines have found out about this and have not given any juices from such backlinks.
Non-Natural Backlinks
What are non-natural backlinks? they are backlinks which are suddenly built over night in thousands!
Unless you have a great piece of news like founding an oil well underneath your house and you post on your blog, high chance no one will ever be interested in linking to your blog, with the exception of auntie lucy and uncle richard.
So get the idea? Search Engines want to you build your backlink overtime,and they want people to automatically linking to you, not bots or softwares which can instantly overnight give you a million backlinks.
“Nofollow Tag”
Basically is a small html code, rel=”nofollow” in the href tag. This will tell the search engine spider not to follow the link, effectively not giving you the link juice.

Has all the same anchor text linking back
What is anchor text, it is the text used to link to your website. Check 2 lines up, you saw the link to wikipedia?
“Here” is the anchor text.
Now scroll higher, saw the link which links to my homepage? “Nick Lee…. Money at home” is the anchor text.
Anchor text are a basic description of a link they are linking too. and not all human think alike.
For this current post, some people might put as “good backlink excellent guide” or “easy to understand backlink explanation” or “good backlink tutorial”
If 1000 backlinks link to this page and the anchor text are all “good backlink excellent guide” dont you think it look funny?
Google might say “How are 1000 people able to think of the same anchor text? they all have telepathy!!”
Dont worry if you have some repeated anchor text, such as “here” or “click here” or even “good backlink tutorial” As long as the percentage is not huge, it is not a matter.
Same IP address range
With shared hosting, we are allowed to have multiple domains under a single webhosting account. It is common for you or me to purchase 10 or 100 domain and put all in a single webhosting account to save money. correct?
Previously there was an abuse where site owners link their websites with each other. Where domain 2- domain 99 will do a backlink to domain 1. That a whopping 99 links. Imagine if you have 2000 websites.
This is obviously link-fraud!!
However, it is natural if a couple of links are interlinked as sometimes, sites share the same information.
they are from non-relevant sites
What constitutes relevancy? If you wrote a blog about baby health. and a mother happens to browse your website and shares your link on her favorite mother care forum. Do you think it is relevant? Yes of course.
Or you have a webpage about the latest toyota tyres and how good they are. A car enthus car it and post on his toyota website. That is relevancy.
How about this? Your latest baby caring tips blog appearing on an adult website?
Google will say “This is holy crap!” and reduce or even remove the link juice.
Get the idea about relevancy now?
Since you understand non-quality backlinks, you should understand quality backlinks since they are the opposite.
Quality links are
- they are not from link farms
- the page it was not link are full of links
- natural backlinking
- it did not a “nofollow tag” (by default, all ahref tags are follow tags, you do not have to put rel=”follow”)
- has all the varying anchor text
- they come from different IP address class range and is all over the world.
- they are from relevant sites.
